John Randell is a valued member of the Electrical Engineering team and works hard to keep his projects on budget and schedule for our clients. John’s team members all speak very highly of him and he has been commended in recent weeks for the way he manages the junior members of the Electrical Engineering design team – Evelyne Polanco and Yannick Renaud.
“I enjoy the variety of projects and clients that Engenium has within its portfolio, as well as the team I work with and the social aspect of Engenium as a business.”
As a Senior Electrical Designer and Team Lead, John’s day to day role involves anything from creating the initial engineering concept drawings for feasibility studies, right through to the detailed design of a project – including single line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, termination drawings and layouts.
“I am also involved in the supervision and mentoring of a dedicated electrical design team, liaising with clients for design related queries, site visits and reviews”, says John. “I have just recently finished a project for Roy Hill and regularly work on projects for blue-chip mining companies like BHP and Rio Tinto”, he added.
“Outside of work I love spending time with my blended family of five daughters, ranging from aged 13 to 20, as well as helping my wife with our side hustle – The Mobile Gelato Cart”
Working within the Brownfields environment is where John believes his expertise lies, due to his years within the Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (EIC) industry.
“I first started out as a Maintenance Electrician, transitioning to more senior roles as time progressed like Senior Electrical Designer, Team Leader, onsite Electrical Supervisor and Projects Superintendent covering minor upgrades or replacements right through to major project work. I have also worked in Management roles, such as a Workshop Manager, Project Manager and Operations Manager as well.”
“My daughters would say my favourite quote is ‘No’, but if I had to choose one myself it would most likely be ‘Bugger’!”
What inspired John to follow down this path? “Not one person in particular”, he says. “Though I think my Dad showed me what a good, honest work ethic is and where it could lead me to in my industry. But more than that, I have always strived to further my career, my experience and my understanding and knowledge within the electrical field, as well as challenge myself with varying roles and responsibilities.”
